One of our competitors has taken on the role of consultant and has retained a few HVAC manufacturers on a fee basis. This charge is for guidance through shaker table tests that simulate earthquakes in California as required under the new codes.
Since they use their own products in the tests, which gain approval at a profit to them, it would seem to be a conflict of interests.
While we have the same qualifications, we do not compete with test laboratories, seismic or acoustical engineers, and it is our policy to provide manufacturers with a list of professionals that they can go to.
One of these professionals is DCL (Dynamic Certification Laboratories) who were engaged by a cooling tower manufacturer. We are pleased to publish one of their releases. We did supply our newly designed isolators and the steel base, but took on no other role and did not charge for the base or isolation. The shaker table mechanism is below grade for easier installation and acceptance of high profile heavy equipment.
